Hospice Volunteers

As a Skagit Hospice volunteer, you’ll be an integral part of the hospice team, helping to ensure the comfort of patients and families in our hospice program. The hospice concept and movement has grown out of the commitment and vision of thousands of volunteers. From the beginning, and still today, volunteers are at the heart of hospice. Nationally, about 100,000 people serve as hospice volunteers and give millions of hours of their time to serve terminally ill patients and their families.

Skagit Hospice Services would not exist without volunteers; they play an essential role in our daily operations. As a volunteer, you will join a group of special people whose skills, dedication, and commitment to our mission makes this work possible. Our volunteers are men and women of every age group-college students, retirees, working professionals, and young mothers, to name a few — who represent the incredible diversity of our region. There are many hospice volunteer opportunities to use your skills.

Hospice volunteers often express their work with patients and families as an honor. The inner knowledge and satisfaction a volunteer receives from knowing they've made a real difference in the life of a patient or family is what makes being a hospice volunteer special. To be invited into the last months, weeks, and days of a person's life is a special privilege.

Because of the sensitive nature of this type of volunteer position, hospice volunteers receive special hospice training.
